The St. Augustine Cathedral Parish rectory, as the Mother Church, serves as the resting place for countless priests after long days traveling to the many parishes andd outstations in the Diocese. While the current rectory had been adapted to try to serve the growing number of priests who reside there, it still floods whenever it rains and there are not enough bathrooms or toilets to serve its cuurent occupancy, among several other problems. It is also now in too poor condition to renovate, thus requiring the building of a new rectory.
The Rectory is currently at its roofing stage and in need of additional funding.
As a community of nomadic people, a child's best chance at an education is through one of our Diocesan boarding schools. Sponsoring an impoverished child provides them a safe home, food, clothing and education, giving them the best opportunity for a bright future.
We need holy and educated priests to offer the sacraments to our communities in the Turkana region. For many of our seminarians this is only possible through the generous support of donors from around the world.
As our population continues to grow, so does our need for stable schools in which to board and educate them.
The extreme heat in the Turkana region often leads to a shortage of clean water and food.
There is a constant and great need for medical care for the many children, families and elderly in our Diocese.
On the side of the Diocese, the collections from the Parishes and partners/friends of the Diocese during the annual Family Day collection has enabled it to cater for the parish subsidies to the tune of KES 18 million every year. This fund is used to support the very needy parishes, to give allowance to the priests and support religious men and women who have no other source of income.
The annual family day fundraising has strengthened the resolve of the faithful to support the Diocese with whatever resources they have.
